meltwater pulse (2014)

After the last ice age, glacial melt caused sea levels to rise rapidly by 120 meters. Large expanses of land that were once migratory paths and habitations for prehistoric civilizations gradually submerged through a series of catastrophic floods and megatsunami. Meltwater Pulse combines the allegory of the science, pseudoscience and mythology surrounding deluge phenomena. Performers are asked to complete the missing information their parts: vocalists use ear bees (looprecord devices created by Sara Roberts [ sroberts.earbee.com ]) to record a word of their choice from fill-in-the-blank sentences; the strings are given a graphic score and rules to compose their own parts.

reaches (2013)

reaches (2013) is a piece for a soloist and landscape. the piece is meant to be audience-less or to turn the performer into the audience. it was inspired by the work of pauline oliveros. the work was part of mlg’s MFA thesis and is on view at the california institute of the arts library.
